Dog Obedience

Tired of being walked by your dog?  Showing techniques and basic house hold obedience will assist you in getting your favorite furry companion under control. Bring vaccination records, 6 foot non-chain lead a choker to the first night of class.  Large dogs must be at least four months old and small dogs must be at least six months old. *Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.  Class is held on the Community Education lawn.

Beginning Computers

This class is for the novice who would like to know more about many computing topics.  You will learn about the Microsoft Windows operating system, use a Word Processing program to create and work with documents; and look at other programs that are included with your computer.  We will also do plenty on the Internet, learning how to use the Web and visit and use websites, search for information, learn how to buy and sell on Ebay, use the resources of Yahoo! and Google, set up and use an Email account, and more.  Guaranteed to make you a better and more confident computer user.  Classis held in the computer lab in the Adult and Community Education building.

Microsoft Word

Word Processing is the basic business productivity skill that all computer users should learn, and the most widely used program for this in business by far is Microsoft Word.  The emphasis in this class will be on the skills needed to do most basic word processing tasks: creating, editing, and formatting documents using the tools available in Microsoft Word.  Learn to cut and paste, drag and drop, save and print, check your spelling, and much more.  Skill with a typewriter or keyboard is helpful but not necessary for this course.

Microsoft Excel

This class covers many of the basic tasks involved in creating and editing workbooks in Microsoft Excel, the highly-used business productivity application.  Entering data into worksheets, writing formulas and using worksheet functions, formatting and manipulating data, and charting and graphing worksheets are topics included in this introductory look at the Excel program.

Couples Dance Class

Couples, beginners, and dancers!  Music is magic.  Enter the magic with us as you move from swing, 2 stepping, polkas, waltz, Latin styles and more.  Enjoy a night out as you learn to dance and add fun new moves. Class is held at Portland Middle School cafeteria.

Mystery Shopping Consultants

Getting paid to shop, dine and travel – does it get any better!  Believe it or not, it’s possible! Mystery shopping is growing in popularity and it is perfect for anyone who would like a fun way to supplement their current income. CPR and First Aid

American Red Cross combines  CPR and First Aid into one class. Learn how to respond to and carry out an emergency action plan.  Class includes adult, child and infant CPR along with choking, caring for injuries, shock, burns, muscles, joints and bones.  Call today to reserve your spot as seating is limited. First Aid students must attend on the 11th and 18th, CPR students must attend on the 11th and 13th.

Babysitting Clinic

Know what to expect and what is expected of you when babysitting. Class will cover child development, bottle feeding, first aid and more. Please bring a teddy bear to class so you can practice diapering. Students must be at least 11 years old. Class size is limited, so call today to register. Students must attend all three classes.

Drawing is Fun           Free New Class

Learn how to draw with the right side of your brain.  In this class we will learn how to draw with pencil, charcoal, and pastels.   Create a masterpiece by learning how to see the basic shapes of all the objects  around you.  We will complete two exercises and a final piece of artwork. This class is free of charge and is for children ages 6-13.  Class is held in the Art room at Oakwood.

This is a five week course that starts at 6:30 and ends at 8pm. Join your fello w beginner artists and learn how to paint with water color.  The fun begins when you learn about color theory, mood, light design and a bit of art history.  Get ready to learn several painting techniques and finish at least two masterpieces. You can purchase a beginning supply kit for $28.00 from the instructor.   Class is presented by Katherine Booker.

This is a five week course that starts at 6:30 and ends at 8pm. Join your fellow beginner artists and learn how to paint with acrylic paints.  This class will guide you step by step, from your first brush stroke to the final detail.  Get ready to learn several painting techniques and finish at least two masterpieces.  Cost of class is $60 plus supplies.  You can purchase a beginning supply kit for $28.00 from the instructor.  Class presented by Katherine Booker.
