The Current
staff is sponsoring our very own Bike to School Day on May 16. We
encourage the students and staff of Portland High School to beat the
rising gas prices, exercise, and be environmentally efficient by riding
their bikes to school. Upon arrival, a light breakfast will be provided,
courtesy of Tom’s Food Center. The Portland Police Department has also agreed to
provide extra security around town that day to ensure our safety. Even
though there will be extra patrol on that day, you should also take your
own safety precautions. Because many of us live far away from school,
meeting at a friend’s house in town may be more sensible. You are still
saving on gas and exercising. Riding to school with friends has
potential to be even more fun than biking alone. It’s also exponentially
safer. |
GUEST EDITORIALS
are welcomed from the Portland High School community. These editorials
should be submitted to the editor two weeks in advance of the
publication date to be considered. All editorials, with the exception of
the staff editorial will be by-lined with the author’s name and included
on a page clearly dedicated to opinion. |
Live too far away?
Drive to a friends or to any place along the Portland River Trail to
park and ride your bike from there!

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
should not exceed 250 words in length and must be signed by the author,
although the author’s name may be withheld upon request. Letters may be
edited for length and grammatical or spelling errors. The author will be
contacted to ensure the credibility of the submitted letter. Every
effort will be made to contact the author prior to deadline if questions
on content and credibility arise. There is no charge for a letter to the
editor. |
