Text Box: The MEAP test tradition continues this fall at Westwood Elementary.  Third, fourth, and fifth graders have been preparing to show us all that they know on the MEAP series of tests.
MEAP Assessments are familiar territory in our school, and as you may know, Westwood has a tradition of excellence when it comes to our students and their performances.  We’re looking forward to building on last year’s successes and showing how our minds have stretched!
MEAP Tests will be administered during the weeks of October 13th and October 20th, with make-up tests being given during the week of October 27th.  This year, many changes are headed our way from the state.  Students will often take more than one test in a day as directed by state guidelines, although the length of each assessment is said to be somewhat shorter than in years past.
Students will be tested in mathematics, reading, and writing.  Fifth graders will also be tested in science.  Our teachers do an excellent job of preparing students for what they will see on the MEAP, and they work hard to ease the anxiety that some kids may experience.  We approach the MEAP as just one measure of what our kids can do.  We’ll all try our best, and at the end we’ll be proud of our efforts.  Because your kids work so hard at learning so much in school, and because our staff is dedicated to giving the best education they possibly can, we simply know our kids will give a great effort and we will ALL be pleased with the results.
During MEAP weeks, we will supply our students with necessary test materials, pencils, and an upbeat atmosphere.  We need your help with the following:  a good night’s rest each night, a good breakfast, a nutritious snack, and lots of encouragement from mom and dad.  We know that YOU, as parents, can make all the difference with your positive outlook and encouraging words.
Together, our students and school will achieve as they always have!
