How it works
Portland Public Schools’ Portrait of a Learner is built around a simple commitment: every student, at every grade level, will have intentional opportunities to Learn, Practice, and Demonstrate the five skills and dispositions of the Portrait of a Learner.
Our students already bring strengths, experiences, and emerging abilities with them. Our responsibility is to recognize those strengths when we see them, help students understand them, support continued growth, and create meaningful opportunities for every student to develop.
Every staff member, no matter their position, plays an essential role in helping students grow into Contributors. The Portrait of a Learner gives us a shared vision for the skills and dispositions we want every Portland student to develop. It is more than words on a page. It represents our collective commitment to helping students succeed now and in the future. We will work together to bring that vision to life, creating meaningful opportunities in every building and at every grade level for students to learn, practice, and live out the skills and dispositions that define our Portrait of a Learner.
